Prostate Cancer Foundation discussions about prostate cancer in the COVID-19 era
The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) has posted a couple of videos for patients regarding management and treatment of prostate cancer during the COVID-19 outbreak.
One offers “Practical advice for PC [prostate cancer] patients for weathering changes caused by COVID-19.” Oncologist Alicia Morgans, M.D., M.S. Public Health, from Northwestern University, discusses how prostate cancer patients can best work with their physicians during this unprecedented era of physical distancing (a.k.a. “social distancing”). The running time of the video is a little more than 18 minutes.
Another video segment is a recording of a session that oncologist Jonathan Simons, M.D., PCF’s chief executive officer and chief medical officer, conducted March 20 on Facebook. In the video, he answers questions that prostate cancer patients submitted regarding COVID-19. The running time of the video is 44 minutes.
Visit the PCF website to play either of these videos. There you will also find links to other information regarding the ramifications of COVID-19 for prostate cancer patients.
The YOLO PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP, established in Yolo County, California, in March 2006, welcomes men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, have recurrent disease, or have an interest or expertise in the topic. We serve residents of Davis, Woodland, Winters, West Sacramento, Dixon, Esparto and other communities in Yolo, Sacramento and Solano counties.
Many of our meetings include presentations by experts. Our guest speakers have included urologists, oncologists, radiation therapists, medical research scientists and other practitioners. We also schedule roundtable discussions to enable men who are recently diagnosed or merely curious to learn from the experiences of men who have been treated for prostate cancer or are being monitored through watchful waiting.
The Yolo Prostate Cancer Support Group, founded by Harold Honeyfield of Davis, is a community service organization operated by unpaid volunteers.
